The Savannah Police Department (SPD) stated that on August 28, an officer was seriously hurt while riding a motorcycle to help with Vice President Kamala Harris\u2019s motorcade.<\/p>\n
Thursday, the police put out a statement<\/a> on their public website. They said it was \u201ca single-vehicle accident\u201d that happened around 7 p.m. and named the cop as Corporal David Bates of the Savannah Police Department. Fox 5 Atlanta said<\/a> that Walz was also on the bus trip.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Savannah Police Department is supporting Corporal Bates and his family as he begins his recovery from injuries sustained in this vehicle accident,\u201d SPD Chief Lenny B. Gunther said in the statement.<\/p>\n The SPD declared their unwavering support in light of the challenging road ahead for Bates.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will be by his side every step of the way,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n At first, it was said that police could see blood on the ground when they tried to help Bates right after the crash. A statement said that Bates \u201csustained serious injuries\u201d in the accident and that he was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center to get help.<\/p>\n \u201cHe is in stable condition and continues to undergo treatment,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Secret Service is aware of an incident that occurred during a motorcade movement yesterday,\u201d Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service\u2019s Atlanta Field Office Frederick D. Houston said in the statement.<\/p>\n They confirmed that everything was under control as\u00a0the campaign<\/a>\u00a0rolled through Georgia and continued onward as planned.<\/p>\n \u201cThe movement was not affected by the incident. We are thankful for the support of our law enforcement partners and wish Corporal David Bates a full and speedy recovery,\u201d Houston added, the statement read.<\/p>\n Information about the events that led to the accident was not known right away.
