President-elect Donald Trump has picked immigration hardliner Thomas Homan to serve as the next \u201cborder czar.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump went on to say that the role of \u201cborder czar\u201d is responsible for \u201cthe Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security,\u201d in addition to the U.S. southern border with Mexico. Tom is the best at police and managing our borders, and I\u2019ve known him for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, known as the \u201cborder czar\u201d in the Biden administration, to win his second term in office less than a week ago.<\/p>\n
Trump made border security a key component of his first term in office and continued to do so throughout his campaigns in 2020 and 2024.<\/p>\n
According to Homeland Security\u2019s website, the number of illegal border crossings increased throughout the Biden administration, reaching about 3 million in fiscal year 2024. Since FY 2021, around 10.8 million illicit encounters have occurred.<\/p>\n
Trump pledged during his campaign to secure the border using a tough stance once more.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a well-targeted, planned operation conducted by the men of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this daily. They\u2019re good at it,\u201d Homan said during a Fox News interview on Sunday, adding that deportations would be a \u201chumane operation.\u201d<\/p>\n
During his campaign, Trump frequently claimed that illegal immigrants were \u201cpoisoning the blood of our country\u201d by flooding the country with gangs and drugs, as well as serving as a hub for human trafficking and smuggling.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re rough people, in many cases from jails, prisons, from mental institutions, insane asylums,\u201d Trump said. \u201cYou know, insane asylums, that\u2019s \u2018Silence of the Lambs\u2019 stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
His president must fill thousands of positions, and this is just the first step. Susie Wiles, Trump\u2019s co-campaign manager, has already been named the White House chief of staff.<\/p>\n
