President-elect Donald Trump has provided additional details of his 90-minute post-election meeting with the co-hosts of far-left MSNBC\u2019s \u201cMorning Joe\u201d program that took place last week following his resounding victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.<\/p>\n
Co-hosts Joe Scarborough\u00a0and\u00a0Mika Brzezinski, who are husband and wife, discussed the meeting on their program on Monday, describing it as an attempt to restart a relationship that had been on ice for essentially seven years.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn Friday we were given the opportunity\u201d to meet with Trump and express concerns about some of his appointments, Brzezinski announced. \u201cJoe and I went to Mar-a-Lago to meet personally with President-elect Trump. It was the first time we have seen him in seven years.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scarborough added that the three talked about \u201ca lot of issues including abortion, mass deportation, threats of political retribution against political opponents and media outlets,\u201d a not-so-veiled reference to colleagues like Rachel Maddow, who has bizarrely insisted that Trump will put her in a concentration-style camp.<\/p>\n
While both sides obviously don\u2019t see eye to eye on many things, \u201cwhat we did agree on was to restart communications,\u201d Brzezinski added.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had not spoken to President Trump since March of 2016 other than a personal call Joe made to President Trump on the morning after the attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania. In this meeting, he was cheerful, he was upbeat, he seemed\u2026 interested in finding common ground with Democrats on some of the most divisive issues. And for those asking why we would go speak with the president-elect during such fraught times, especially between us, I guess I would ask back, why wouldn\u2019t we?\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
\u201cFive years of political warfare has deeply divided Washington and the country. We have been as clear as we know how in expressing our deep concerns about President Trump\u2019s words and actions in the coarsening of public debate. But for nearly eighty million Americans, election denialism, public trials, and January 6th were not as important as the issues that moved them to send Donald Trump back to the White House with their vote,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cJoe and I realize it\u2019s time to do something different, and that starts with not only talking about Donald Trump, but talking with him,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we did agree on is to restart communications.\u201dpic.twitter.com\/Eck1OKJCpq<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Eric Daugherty (@EricLDaugh) November 18, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n\n Trump responded on Monday, telling Fox News that in order to \u201cMake America Great Again,\u201d it is \u201cvital\u201d to have a \u201cfree, fair and open media,\u201d adding<\/a> that he feels he has \u201can obligation\u201d to the American people to work with the press, even those who had treated him \u201cbadly beyond comprehension.\u201d<\/p>\n During the interview, Trump said he is in the process of transforming America into \u201cthe greatest and most powerful country in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIn order to Make America Great Again, it is very important, if not vital, to have a free, fair and open media or press,\u201d Trump said before addressing his sit-down with Scarborough and Brzezinski.<\/p>\n \u201cI received a call from Joe Scarborough requesting a meeting for him and Mika, and I agreed that it would be a good thing if such meeting took place,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWe met at Mar-a-Lago on Friday morning at 8:00.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump said the meeting was \u201cextremely cordial.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMany things were discussed, and I very much appreciated the fact that they wanted to have open communication,\u201d he said. \u201cIn many ways, it\u2019s too bad that it wasn\u2019t done long ago.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump added that they \u201ccongratulated me on running a \u2018great and flawless campaign, one for the history books,\u2019 which I really believe it was, but it was also a campaign where I worked long and hard \u2014 perhaps longer and harder than any presidential candidate in history.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe talked about various\u00a0Cabinet members\u00a0\u2014 both announced and to be announced.
